Review of the book “The Prophet”

Genre: Fiction/ Philosophy

The Prophet is written by Khalil Gibran in 1923 and is considered one of the masterpieces of Sir Khalil’s literature. This book takes you on a profound journey about the central character ALMUSTAFA, the Prophet that starts as,
Note: The following paragraph might contain spoilers!
The Prophet’s farewell has come and prepares to leave his beloved city, Orphalese. As he waits for his ship to arrive, he engages with township people and tells them that His time has come to an end and that He must leave. Among those people, a woman came out who told Him to give your teachings in brief about every aspect of life so people of the township will use it to spend their life purposefully……

This book contains beautiful prose poetry on ‘Love’, ‘Joy and Sorrow’, ‘Work’ and ‘Death’ and many more. It is written in a simple language yet contains a very deep meaning. Readers can re-read and it will give different meanings every time according to the reader’s current situations in life.

This book is a great companion of spirituality, solace and guidance and from the help of it, readers can explore the depth of their souls and discover their true power……
Furthermore here are some of my favorite parts of this book

On Love;
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

On Giving;
It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give
unasked, through understanding;
And to the open-handed the search for one who
shall receive is joy greater than giving.

On Pain;
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

On Teaching;
And even as each of you stands alone in God’s knowledge,
so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the Earth.

In conclusion, this is surely a great book, whether you read books for fun or you are new to philosophical books this is a great choice for you. Recommended
