Book Review: Atomic Habits by James Clear

Book: Atomic Habits
Author: James Clear
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Genre: Nonfiction/Self Help/Personal Development

{ It's so easy to overestimate the importance of one defining moment and underestimate the value of making small improvements on a daily basis }

Atomic Habits by Sir James is truly a brilliant work. I would be honest with you when I first saw its title I wasn’t interested in it as the title seemed boring (Atomic Habits) and at the same time I thought this book contains tips for creating habits which would be boring to know. But as I started it with a prayer ‘Please, please this should be interesting’, it turned out to be a book I wasn’t expecting to be, “A very interesting and remarkable book”. The story of the author, and how he wrote this book, is fascinating. So basically I judged a book by its name hehe :/, but I was completely wrong.

This book is based on the science of how a habit works meaning it helps one to understand basic how one recognizes it, comes across it, goes towards it and how it is done.

For this, you have to first understand these words ‘
cue – The noticing the rewards
craving – The wanting the rewards
response – Obtaining the reward
reward – The reward itself

Now if you understood these terms, further in the book author has described the "4 laws of behaviour change" which will help you to create good habits and eliminate the bad ones.

These laws are in the order of….

For creating a good habit
Cue – Make it obvious
Craving – Make it attractive
Response – Make it easy
Reward – Make it satisfying

The inversion of the above four laws is as follows….

For breaking a bad habit
Cue – Make it invisible
Craving – Make it unattractive
Response – Make it difficult
Reward – Make it unsatisfying

As mentioned earlier, "It's so easy to overestimate the importance of one defining moment and underestimate the value of making small improvements on a daily basis" We come across these kinds of quotes but this book will teach you its importance. Don’t ever undervalue the importance of tiny changes ever because these tiny changes in your behaviour matter the most In one’s personal growth.

Whether or not you are interested in creating a new habit, I think this book is meant for everybody to read it. My suggestion for this book is that don’t buy it for creating habits, I know this book will help you with it, but buy this book for reading as it contains hundreds of fascinating stories of many successful people in their life. It's very easy to understand and grasp the idea, very easy words the author has used in the book.

I don’t have enough words to write most of this book in this short review but I have tried my best and if you have read it till this line, Thank You.....

I Started Journaling and It Quietly Changed Everything

Why You Should Start Journaling Writing about your weekly progress can help a lot. A teacher once told my class: “Write your progress somewhere and ask yourself if you’ve actually grown.” I didn’t take it seriously at first, but I still started writing — and now it’s been two years . And honestly, the best part wasn’t the writing… It was reading my past self . What Makes Journaling Special? There are things in life we can’t share publicly — even with people we trust the most. But a journal is different: Nobody is judging you You can be completely honest You can write things you’ll never say out loud You can expose your weaknesses without fear It’s yours — private. How I Started I didn’t start journaling to “track progress” or “be productive.” I just wrote what was happening: How my tests went How people treated me Why they behaved a certain way What I was feeling It became a space where I could say anything — without being misunderstood. No one was judg...

Let the Man Cry

It’s okay to let it out. You’re safe here — with yourself, your thoughts, and your truth. As a man myself, I understand that society has presented men as someone who must be strong — both physically and mentally. We are seen as people who, when we cry, somehow become weak. And yes, sometimes others might treat us differently when we do. The society made me believe that crying makes you weak. I used to think that too… but now I realize it’s this very mentality that makes you weak.   But I guess crying doesn’t make you weak. It actually helps regulate your emotions — the feelings you’ve buried deep in your heavy heart. Some of us might have never cried in our lives, or maybe we’ve even forgotten how. But I guess… it’s time to let your tears fall in your safe space. And by safe space , I don’t mean another person. I mean yourself . Because you are the only one who has seen your ups and downs. You are the one who understands yourself the most. You are the one who will n...

Book Review: Verity by Colleen Hoover

Verity Colleen Hoover 5 of 5 stars Genre: Thriller/Romance/Mystery The story of the book is as follows...... Jeremy Crawford husband of Verity Crawford (best-selling author) invites Lowen Ashleigh (an average struggling author) to complete her wife’s remaining work in a series that she couldn’t complete because she was injured. When Lowen reaches Crawford's house she starts to get through years of Verity's work to first understand which tone and style she uses in her books. After finding her autobiography, in which she has written everything about herself and how her life changed, which Verity wrote for herself, she began reading it too. As she continues reading it, the intensity of her terrors and curiosity grows as she goes through the chapters one by one. This was my first Miss Collen book. It gave me chills while reading it and I completed it within two days. This was pretty fast for me. Recommended for everyone interested in Romance, Mystery and Thrill...
